In This Episode…

In this episode I have a quick look back on last month and reflect on my latest challenge which is:

  • about focusing on the work I need to do
  • AND having the discipline myself to take time out to relax and recover.

I reflect back on my monthly goals and lament about how I’ve not achieved what I set out to do and what I am going to do about it.

Hi, and welcome to today’s episode of the Profit Productivity Podcast. It’s your host, Michael Tipper. Who else would it be?

Now today is Sunday. It’s the end of may, it’s the end of the month. So with it have being Sunday then ideally I should take the whole day off.

But because I got slightly distracted yesterday, I’ve had to catch up with a couple of things I didn’t do yesterday.

This morning I managed to fit them in and I’m just doing my end of month routine now.

So the challenge I’m having is actually really focusing in and getting the stuff done in the time when I really want to work. And then having the discipline to take the time off so I can relax and enjoy my life.

That’s the challenge I’ve got. There’s a bit of a blur between those two that I’m not quite managing very well.

I’ve got to get on top of that because I’ve got to limit the amount of time I work. And ironically, that will make me more effective.

The law of diminishing returns kicks in if I try and work too long. As I’ve not quite got that right this weekend, I’m going to have to work on that.

With it being the end of the month, I’m going to reflect back on how this month has been. Just looking at my monthly plan I’ve got one significant tasks done that I just set out to do, but there are a couple of things that I didn’t do that I was hoping to have done.

When I reflect back on the month, I think, “Where did the month go? What did I let get in the way of me achieving what I set out to achieve?”

I know I’ve made some significant progress. I think I changed tack a couple of times as I reacted to things that were developing.

But of the one, two, three, four, five, six, seven goals I set, I’ve got one, two, three that have been done.

The others I think were possibly a bit of a stretch, or I just let myself get distracted. I’m not quite sure which yet, but I’m going to work on establishing what that is.

Of course now I need to look forward into next month – into June. And so it’s going to be about resetting the goals for June and hopefully taking some lessons in from what I’ve learned from this month. Understanding where I may have overextended myself or just not stayed focused enough.

I’d set myself three significant tasks to achieve in May across nine key objectives. I’ve done one of them, which I suppose is progress.

I should pat myself on the back about that. But as I look back, I’d actually allocated myself to do one a week for the first three weeks and allocated a spare week. But I still didn’t get the stuff done that I wanted to get done.

So that’s something I’m going to have to work on.

So that’s today’s episode.

Until tomorrow.
